While IPL technology is a game-changer for many, it’s important to know it’s not yet suitable for everyone. IPL works by targeting melanin (pigment) in the hair, which means it’s most effective on light to medium skin tones with dark hair. It struggles with very light blonde, grey, or red hair due to low pigment levels, and on darker skin tones where there’s a higher risk of the skin absorbing too much energy—potentially leading to irritation or pigmentation issues.

IPL should also never be used over tattoos or large moles, as the device can’t distinguish between hair pigment and skin pigment in those areas.
